❗️ One day artificial intelligence will take over the world and robots will wipe out humankind. ❗️
This is one of the most popular and scary myths to date. The reason for it is the stereotypes created by science fiction writers and Hollywood. Our vivid imagination is happy to take in this story and does not want to consider reasonable scientific arguments. And yet, they're quite powerful.
So, why can't the AI take over the world:
The first and most important argument is that artificial intelligence has no consciousness! Emotions, feelings, and desires are unknown to it.
In 2016 there was a significant event in the AI sphere: the program beat the world champion in the logical board game go. However, the program did not experience the pleasure of victory.
In case of loss, it would not have felt the bitterness of defeat and could not refuse to play at all, because it has no mood, for example. As long as the machine is not endowed with feelings, it can not feel resentment, anger, and desire for revenge. Therefore, conflict with humanity or its destruction is not possible a priori.
The AI systems that exist today have a narrow application. They are designed to address clearly defined problems in one area. Yes, the AI's advantage is that it learns very quickly, but it learns only for one task, which is set by a human.
✅ Conclusion
Artificial intelligence can only rebel against people if it has the desire to do so, or if the person himself has set the task. However, at the present stage of research, we have no idea about the nature of sensations, feelings, and desires of a man, and therefore we cannot teach AI to feel.
Besides, the modern AI is, so-called, weak AI. This means that it can only perform a single task. The appearance of another kind of AI is an open question.
